The main protagonist of the manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, and its anime adaptation, YuYu Hakusho, Yusuke Urameshi is a Spirit Detective tasked with protecting the Human World, his closest friends, and key allies from various supernatural threats. After dying while saving a child from being hit by a car, Yusuke is greeted by an unconventional Grim Reaper: a cheerful and bubbly young woman named Botan. Given a chance to return to life, he must prove himself to be genuinely good, or face being devoured by the Beast.

With superhuman strength, enhanced speed, agility, and endurance, the young supernatural detective leans back as he performs his signature move, the Spirit Gun, where he channels all his spiritual energy into his fingertip, firing a blue energy beam at his enemies like a gun. Though a master of long-range projectile techniques that annihilate foes from afar, he still enjoys a good brawl and often prefers fighting with his fists. He stands upon on a base of jagged rocks emerging beneath his feet wearing a sleeveless yellow shirt, blue jeans, black shoes, a black karate belt, and green wristbands.
