Released as a digital-only surprise in November 2020 during lockdown, Blues in Mono quickly became a fan favourite, prompting overwhelming demand for a physical release. Now, one year later, this album is available pressed to Blue Coloured vinyl, capturing the raw energy of Seasick Steve's acoustic blues performances.
A timeless tribute to traditional country blues, Blues in Mono was recorded with a 1940s-era microphone, with Seasick Steve performing solo, direct to an old tape machine. No computers were involved—just pure, old-school recording techniques that bring the listener into the room with Steve and his guitar. The cover says it all: one man, one voice, one acoustic guitar, and one microphone.
Steve himself explains: “It’s just me and an acoustic guitar, playing old country blues. I always wanted to do it but never felt worthy, but then I realised I better hurry up and do it ‘cos I ain’t never gonna feel worthy! I tried to make it so that if you was listening, you’d think I was sitting with you in your house.”
