Radiohead - Kid A 2xLP Vinyl Record

In the wake of their third album, “Ok Computer,” it had become clear that Radiohead were paving way for the future of rock music. As a band who push the limits of creativity, they are known for their explorative and restless sound. Taking influence from old style rock as well as electronica and hip hop, each of Radiohead's albums marks a cornerstone in their musical evolution.

Radiohead's creative breakthrough arrived when the band embraced electronica, their album "Kid A" takes time to unfold; multiple plays are necessary just to discern the music's form, to get a handle on quiet, drifting, minimally arranged songs with no hooks. This emphasis on texture, this reliance on elliptical songs, makes "Kid A” the most successful electronica album from a rock band.

Staff Review:

Something Radiohead are known for is constantly pushing boundaries and achieving a more courageous work with each new release. 'And how does one make an album more bold than “OK Computer,”' you may ask? Well, "Kid A" is the answer. The album continues to build on the electronic exploration of “OK Computer,” while moving further from traditional rock and accomplishing a more atmospheric, passionate sound.

Radiohead achieve their most breathtaking experience on “Kid A.”, an album that feels like a dream. It’s a beautiful paradox: shocking yet soothing, expansive yet intimate, bitter yet comforting. I credit most of this to the reinvention of sound found on the album. Especially unique and ambitious, the songs seamlessly move between the jazz infused krautrock groove of "The National Anthem,” the apocalyptic, electronic cluster of sound that is "Idioteque” and the heartfelt, breathtaking composure of ambience on “Treefingers.”

“Kid A" has achieved ground-breaking impact in its individuality - always sparking curiosity in the listener - with plenty of undeniably powerful components you can count on. From Thom Yorkes astounding, suspenseful vocals, the catchy-yet-inventive melodies never missing a note and the tightly hypnotic rhythm section, there's no doubt that each song is a powerhouse of realised emotion.

An album that doesn’t need any further appraisal, “Kid A” is one of the few that live up to the hype - even almost two decades after its release. It achieves everything in its ambitious scope and each note is exceptionally emotive. It’s an album I will carry with me for years to come and reserve for the most heartfelt of times.

10/10 - Handsome Will (and not just because Pitchfork gave it a 10)
