Placebo - Black Market Music LP Vinyl Record
Black Market Music is the third studio album by English alternative rock band Placebo, released on 9 October 2000. The album took nine months to record, from late-1999 to mid-2000; which is the longest amount of time that the band has ever spent recording an album to date.
Reaching #6 in the Official UK Album Charts and spawning the singles “Taste in Men”, “Slave to the Wage”, “Special K” and “Black-Eyed”, it is a record that by the band’s own admission was created during the height of their “party phase”.
Black Market Music features themes of love and desperation, drugs and addiction, religion and societal expectations as well as mental health. It was dedicated to their music publicist friend Scott Piering, who had died of cancer earlier in the year. They also reference their sound technician Levi Tecofski in the song Commercial for Levi; a man who once saved a drunk Brian Molko from being knocked down by a vehicle.
Later in the album you'll notice things start getting mellower and darker, the reverb'd pianos, lightly tapped drums, electronic noises all elbowing the guitars to the side for a slice of the attention. One of the nicest tracks and one to look out for, is 'Black-Eyed', which sees the electronics politely let the guitars have a go between wailed choruses.
