Formed after the demise of some of the members previous band, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam broke into the mainstream with their debut album, in 1991, which has gone on to become one of the highest-selling rock records ever. Pearl Jam rose above the legions of grungy alt-rockers littering the early '90s to become the most popular and enduring American rock & roll band of their time.
