The Cyclopes were a giant one-eyed humanoid creature from Greek and Roman mythology, and later featured in Homer’s The Odyssey (c. 700 BC), in which the monsters were described as an uncivilised group of shepherds, the brethren of Polyphemus encountered by Odysseus. Cyclopes have no agriculture, no wine, and live only on milk, cheese and the meat of sheep, however, the Cyclopes were also famous for being the builders of the Cyclopean walls of Mycenae and Tiryns.

Although this mythological creature has been recreated again and again by countless artists and storytellers, it wasn’t until the adventure films of the 1950s when Ray Harryhausen first brought a Cyclops to life on the silver screen, which quickly become an iconic interpretation of the mythological creature that is still recognisable today.
