No Home Record is the debut album by American musician, singer and songwriter Kim Gordon. It was released October 11, 2019.
Best known as the bassist, guitarist and vocalist from the band Sonic Youth, this album is the first solo realise in Gordon’s 38 year career. Produced by Justin Raisen, the idea for the album was apparently born after the pair met at an Airbnb a few years earlier.
Vastly different from her previous undertakings, the sounds of No Home Record come from an industrial, art punk and electro rock genre, combining confusing and contrasting beat patterns. There are scatterings of distorted guitar and a strong underlying bass, with the drums belting through on some tracks which pay homage to her roots, but Gordon has used all of her creative skill to develop an album which is incredibly unique mesh of interesting sounds and genres.
A little unnerving at times yet continually intriguing, the album demonstrates Gordon’s vast talent for vision and multilayered output. Each track is a tribute to the distorted goat tracks of her mind and will take listeners on a darkened journey through sublime messages of muted electronica.
