Released in 1999, 2001 is the second studio album by American rapper and producer Dr. Dre.
After his tumultuous time in the infamous rap group NWA, 2001 saw Dre be able to experiment and collaborate openly and freely, allowing for his musical talent and sonic landscapes to expand.
The album focuses on themes of violence, crime, promiscuity, sex, drug use, and street gangs whilst being backed with classic R&B arrangements and infectious hip-hop beats. Big-name artists such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Xzibit make an appearance within the albums hour long run time, allowing for Dre’s music to expand and grow to new, previously untouched heights on the Billboard Charts.
This album for many represents the turn of the millennium and the turn in Dr. Dre’s style of rapping and producing. If you are a hip-hop fan, be sure to add this truly iconic album to your record collection today!
