Bright Eyes ‎- Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was 2xLP Vinyl Record (Transparent Red & Orange Coloured Vinyl)

Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was is the tenth studio album by American indie rock band Bright Eyes. The release marks the band's first project in nearly a decade, following The People's Key (2011). Released by Dead Oceans on August 21, 2020, making it their first album not released by Saddle Creek Records. The album is dedicated to frontman Conor Oberst's brother Matt, who died in November 2016.

Twangy American rock is paired effectively with velvety orchestral pop on this album. Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was has elements of gospel choirs, warped electronic textures and rupturing distortion, with a scattering of slap base provided by Flea of Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Vocally Oberst has developed to middle-aged appropriateness, strong and convincing with the tracks lyrically depicting looming anxieties that haven’t been lost due to age or experience.

A bittersweet meeting of joyful tunes and sad poetry, it will be interesting to see if this release will be a fitting final curtain call to the band after so many years or a sign of reemergence and new direction.
