Boards Of Canada - Peel Session TX 21/07/98 EP Vinyl Record
Back in 1998, Boards Of Canada headed down to John Peel’s radio show to record a session of tracks. While three of the tunes they taped there - ‘Happy Cycling’, ‘Aquarius’ and ‘Olson’ - were all packaged up as a Warp Records EP a year later, bar ‘XYZ’. It’s a real treat, then, that Warp have managed to include the previously-unreleased ‘XYZ’ on this new pressing of the Peel Session, released as part of Warp’s WXAXRXP birthday series.
This impressive “Peel Session” features the close-up, anechoic sound of 'Olson', a hip hop influenced version of ‘Happy Cycling' and a dreamy, pastoral take on ‘Aquarius’. Recorded in a BBC Maida Vale session with a cumbersome stack of gear under a tangle of cables and flight cases.
